First of all, we hope everyone has enjoyed Christmas and we would like to wish all our friends, family and clients a happy and prosperous 2023. Here in Spain, the festivities haven't finished yet as we still have the three kings celebrations on the 6th January.
Christmas in Xàtiva
2022 has been a fantastic year for the Spanish property market. A post-Covid boom, driven by the desire for a change in lifestyle, has seen property sales and prices increase significantly this year. There are many well documented challenges facing the world at the moment, the war in Ukraine, the cost of living crisis and interest rates, yet the market here has continued to flourish.
Even with the added obstacles of Brexit, British clients still make up the highest percentage of foreign buyers, especially in the popular tourist destinations such as the Comunidad Valenciana where we are based, although the dominance is not quite what it used to be and we do see a much wider range of nationalities now, mainly from Germany, Belgium, France and Holland.
Whilst on the subject of Brexit, Spain has recently announced a new "Digital Nomad Visa" which will come into force this year and allow people whose jobs allow them to work remotely from another country, to come and live and work in Spain. This will be of benefit to many people living in the UK who wish to live in Spain but can continue to work remotely. With the increase in property prices, especially by the coast, many buyers are now looking further afield to find their dream home. The inland area of Valencia has some beautiful towns, excellent facilities, great transport links and a wide range of properties at prices considerably lower than on the coast. We have seen a huge upturn in clients looking in particular in Xàtiva due to its beautiful old town and rail links to Valencia and also some of the pretty villages in the surrounding areas with country houses on large plots at great prices.
